In a somewhat surprising turn of events, Beanie Bishop failed to make the Steelers’ roster ahead of the regular season.

After a great start to his NFL career during his rookie season last year, Bishop was cut by Pittsburgh on Tuesday.

Bishop was the Steelers’ starting Nickel cornerback to start the 2024 season, but he fell out of favor by the middle of the year, with the team replacing him when Cam Sutton returned from suspension.

Bishop totaled 45 tackles with four picks during his rookie season in 2024.

Just like during his lone year as a Mountaineer, Bishop’s interceptions for the Steelers came in big moments. He was even named the NFL’s Rookie of the Month for October.

Bishop’s first two picks came off then Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers twice in an early season Sunday Night Football game. He also picked off Joe Burrow and sealed a Monday Night Football victory with one as well.

He recorded 67 tackles and four interceptions in 2023 at WVU, earning national recognition as a consensus All-American. The Steelers then signed Bishop as an undrafted free agent.

Bishop will now go through waivers, where he will remain until noon on Wednesday. If he clears waivers, he will be eligible to be re-signed to Pittsburgh’s practice squad.
