Former WVU guard and current Radford head coach Darris Nichols praised newly hired interim head coach Josh Eilert. Eilert was promoted by West Virginia last weekend.

“Josh is one of the most consistent and detail-oriented coaches I have been around. He was a big part of my growth in a difficult time when I transitioned from a player to a graduate assistant. I will be forever thankful for his support,” Nichols said.

Eilert joined WVU’s staff back in 2007 when Bob Huggins went from Kansas State back to his alma mater. Nichols played under Eilert during his senior season and joined the coaching staff as a graduate assistant from 2010-11. Nichols is entering his third season as head coach at Radford while Eilert is entering his 17th season on staff at WVU.

“A great Mountaineer and even a better friend,” Eilert wrote back on Twitter.

Eilert will serve as interim head coach of the Mountaineers for the 2023-24 season. At the end of the year, Eilert will be evaluated and the University will conduct a national search with Eilert depending on his performance. Eilert is now making $1.5 million over the next 10 months.

West Virginia will host Radford this upcoming season in Morgantown on Dec. 20.
