WVU Wrestling Unveils Complete 2026-27 Schedule
On Thursday, the WVU wrestling program released their complete 2026-27 schedule.
“We are excited for a super-challenging schedule,” coach Tim Flynn said. “This year, we have one of the tougher schedules in the country that is highlighted by road matches against the No. 1 (Penn State) and No. 2 (Oklahoma State) teams in the country.”
West Virginia opens another season competing in one of the best conferences in the country in the Big 12. Two Big 12 teams finished in the top 10 at the 2026 NCAA Wrestling Championships in 2026, with Oklahoma State placing second.
West Virginia sent six wrestlers to the NCAA Championships, and four of those return this year with redshirt junior Ty Watters leading the way after earning sixth place to become an All-American for the second time in his career.
Gunner Andrick, Ian Bush and Rune Lawrence also return after making trips to the NCAA Championships last season. Brody Conley — a 2024 NCAA qualifier — is back as well.
West Virginia begins the season unofficially on Oct. 23, with its intrasquad event at 6 p.m. at the Shell Building in Morgantown. Admission is free for fans.
The season officially begins with the Southeast Open on Nov. 1 in Roanoke, Virginia. The Mountaineers begin dual meet action against Mercyhurst on Nov. 7, at Cameron High School in Cameron, West Virginia. West Virginia is competing there to honor Bush.
WVU hits the road for matches against Brown and Hofstra in a tri-meet on Nov. 15, in Providence, Rhode Island, before going to Utah to face Utah Valley to open Big 12 Conference action.
The Mountaineers host their first dual at Hope Coliseum just before Thanksgiving against American on Nov. 22.
December opens with the Mountaineers in Las Vegas for the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational. Last year, two Mountaineers won in their respective weight classes and WVU placed fourth as a team for its highest finish since 2002.
The Mountaineers return to dual competition with a trip to Pennsylvania to face the Penn State Nittany Lions, who have won six consecutive national championships. The old Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) foes meet for the first time since 2013 with West Virginia last defeating Penn State in 2002.
To round out the final month of 2026, the Mountaineers host Northern Iowa on Dec. 18, and hit the road to battle Edinboro on Dec. 20. West Virginia earned a top-20 win on the road last season against UNI for its first win in the series and faces Edinboro for the first time since 2023.
January features six duals for West Virginia with a trip to Stillwater, Oklahoma, to highlight the bunch. West Virginia opens the new year on Jan. 9, at home against North Carolina, before traveling to Missouri to face the Tigers on Jan. 14.
West Virginia will then face the national runner-up, Oklahoma State, on Jan. 17, at Gallagher-Iba Arena in Stillwater, Okla.
The Mountaineers return home for full weekend hosting Iowa State on Jan. 22, and Arizona State on Jan. 24. The final dual of the month is at Wyoming on Jan. 29, West Virginia’s final road trip of the regular season.
WVU wraps up the regular season at home against Oklahoma on Feb. 7 and Lock Haven on Feb. 21. West Virginia has won the last two meetings with Oklahoma, including an incredible 19-17 win last year at Hope Coliseum.
The 2027 Big 12 Wrestling Championships return to Tulsa, Oklahoma, on March 5-6. The 2027 NCAA Wrestling Championships are in St. Louis, Missouri, this year at the Enterprise Center on March 18-20.
