Rich Rodriguez Shares Thoughts About Death of Prominent Businessman, WVU Supporter Ike Morris
Prominent West Virginia businessman Ike Morris has died. As announced by his daughter, Shelly Morris, on Facebook, Morris passed away on Monday, Oct. 19. He was 88-years-old.
Morris, the longtime owner of Waco Oil & Gas and known as a major donor to the WVU athletic department, was induced into the West Virginia University Business Hall of Fame earlier this year. WVU football head coach Rich Rodriguez released a statement about Morris’ death on Monday afternoon.
“My family and I are brokenhearted to learn of passing of our dear friend Ike Morris. He was the most influential person in my life. From my time at Glenville State 36 years ago to today, he was always there to help me and be like a second father. He never stopped caring or believing in me,” said Rodriguez.
In addition to his support of WVU, both in sports and the university as a whole, Morris is also credited with helping to fund Glenville State University. To show their appreciation, Glenville State named their football stadium the Ike and Sue (his wife) Morris Stadium.
