The West Virginia Sports Now Daily Notebook is a daily recap of news concerning West Virginia University Athletics.

**Update (5:30 p.m.)

Mountaineers golfer Trent Tipton had an immaculate day during West Virginia’s first qualifier of the season on Sunday at Bedford Springs Resort in Bedford, Pa.

Tipton set the course record for a single round after shooting a minus-12 (60), while also breaking the West Virginia golf program record for the lowest 54-hole qualifying total score at minus-20 (67, 60, 69).

With the win, Tipton secured a spot in The Gopher Invitational on Sept. 11-12 at Windsong Farm Golf Club in Independence, Minn.

**Update (4:00 p.m.)

The West Virginia women’s soccer team earned its first victory of the season after defeating Saint Joseph’s 5-1 at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium on Sunday.

After leading 1-0 at halftime, the Mountaineers scored four goals in the second half to pull away. West Virginia outshot Saint Joseph’s 24-5.

AJ Rodriguez, Emily Thompson, Maddie Moreau, Chloe Adler and Rhea Kijowski each tallied goals for the Mountaineers.

Kayza Massey claimed the win in goal.

**Update (1:00 p.m.)

West Virginia advanced to the Elite Eight of the FOX College Football Fan Vote on Friday.

The Mountaineers defeated Michigan State in the Sweet 16, and will now take on the University of Houston in the next round.

Voting for the Elite Eight begins on Twitter at 1 p.m. Monday.
