WVU Awards Trio of Successful Coaches With Contract Extensions
As rewards for successful seasons on various levels, WVU decided to hand three of its coaches new contract extensions. WVU locked up baseball head coach Steve Sabins, women’s basketball head coach Mark Kellogg and even volleyball head coach Jen Greeny to new deals, as reported first by EerSports and then confirmed by director of athletics Wren Baker during a recent podcast appearance.
Sabins led West Virginia to the school’s first-ever trip to the College World Series, finishing as one of the final four teams standing. This happened after Sabins, in only his second season at the helm, guided WVU to a 45-15 record, runner-up finishes for both the Big 12โs regular and conference tournament titles and then NCAA Regional and Super Regional series wins.

And the historic 2026 season followed Sabins’ debut season in 2025. He captained the Mountaineers to a 44-16 record, a Big 12 regular season title and a NCAA Regional win after taking over for his predecessor Randy Mazey. To his credit, Sabins was named the National Coach of the Year by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.
Kellogg, also early in his WVU tenure, won the Big 12 Tournament championship and put together a body of work that allowed West Virginia to host NCAA Tournament games for the first time since 1992.

Kellogg reflected on the success of the 2025-2026 season, as well as their shortcomings a couple months after falling to Kentucky in the second round.
โThere was a ton of success, I had as much fun coaching that group as any group that Iโve had,โ Kellogg told WV Sports Nowโs Mike Asti at the Pittsburgh stop of the WVU Coaches Caravan. โObviously winning a Big 12 Tournament title, the Greenbrier game, and other wins throughout the season. Thatโs how we try to look at it.โ
And as for Greeny, while she has yet to win a championship of any kind or accomplish, she has helped the volleyball program rise up from where it was prior to het taking over. She helped the volleyball team improve by seven wins from her first season in 2024 to 2025 result. They are 4-3 so far this season.
