Date Changed for WVU Football in Future Duke’s Mayo Classic

The date for a future WVU football game has been officially changed. To confirm the rumors, West Virginia’s 2028 matchup against Tennessee will now be played on August 26th of that year, shifting a week earlier from the original scheduled day of Sept. 2.

As announced by the West Virginia University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, the University of Tennessee Athletics Department and the Charlotte Sports Foundation on Wednesday, all parties involved have agreed to the schedule change for the 2028 Duke’s Mayo Classic at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C.

This game marks the second time the two schools will play and second time in Charlotte. They opened the 2018 season at Bank of America Stadium, with the Mountaineers defeating the Volunteers 40-14. Since that first appearance at the event, WVU has experienced more success in Charlotte, defeating North Carolina in the 2023 Duke’s Mayo Bowl and then most recently beating Virginia in Week 3 of this season.
