ESPN FPI Views WVU Football in Negative Light After Win

As WVU football fans continue to wrestle with the difference from the first and second half against Coastal Carolina, the ESPN FPI weighed in with its own view of the game.

And while the FPI doesn’t matter as far as an official ranking and often provides some confusing results, it does show that WVU shouldn’t have allowed against against a lower level program, especially one undergoing its own rebuild with a first-year head coach, make the game so close at the end.

It also shows that West Virginia is going to have to really dominate an FCS like UT Martin to avoid slipping further down the list. But a win is a win and the real test will be in Week 3 when the Mountaineers meet Virginia in Charlotte, N.C.

Imagine the outlook for this West Virginia team if their explosive play from the first half continued throughout the rest of the day on Saturday.

However, the only thing that matters now is the 1-0 Mountaineers will welcome UT Martin to Morgantown next week, with kickoff from Milan Puskar Stadium set for 1:00 pm ET.
