Miles McBride won the battle of former Mountaineers as his New York Knicks advanced past Joe Mazulla’s Boston Celtics in the second round of the NBA Playoffs Friday.

McBride scored 10 points as New York routed Boston 119-81 Friday night to clinch their second-round series four games to two.

McBride, who played in Morgantown from 2019-21, was 4-of-7 from the floor and 2-of-5 from three as he played 32 minutes in the series-clinching game Friday night. He averaged eight points per game in the series, including a pair of 11-point performances in games one and five.

A former second-round pick of the Knicks, McBride averaged a career-high 9.5 points this year, his fourth season in the NBA.

Mazulla, who starred for the Mountaineers from 2006-11, led the Celtics to at least the Eastern Conference Finals in each of the past two seasons but fell short this year after losing star player Jayson Tatum to a leg injury in game four of the series against the Knicks. Mazulla has a 182-64 record in his brief NBA head coaching career with two trips to the conference finals and last yearโ€™s NBA championship victory. The Celtics are now 33-17 in the playoffs under Mazulla.

McBride and New York advance to face the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals. That seven-game series will begin on Wednesday, May 21. This is the firs time a Knicks team will play in the Eastern Conference Finals in 25 years.
