One of the West Virginia starters to transfer following the Guaranteed Rate Bowl, Jackie Matthews, has found a new home, transferring to Mississippi State on Tuesday morning.

The former WVU cornerback made the announcement on his social media.

Matthews spent two seasons at West Virginia, after playing junior college ball at Mississippi Gulf Coast CC. The Birmingham, Alabama, native started at cornerback in 2021 for the Mountaineers, playing in 12 games. Matthews recorded 6.5 tackles for loss, 1.0 sack and an interception. Matthews made the game saving play against Virginia Tech back in September to secure the Black Diamond Trophy for West Virginia.

Matthews will have one year of eligibility left and will have an option at another year due to the COVID eligibility rules.
