After a big win for the Mountaineers in Fort Worth on Saturday, new bowl game predictions released Monday have WVU playing in late December.

Heading into week six, 247sports has the Mountaineers facing the Arkansas Razorbacks on Dec. 27 in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl, with kickoff set for 3:30 p.m.

The AutoZone Liberty Bowl takes place annually at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium in Memphis, Tennessee. According to the Bowl’s website, it is the seventh oldest college bowl game and is “one of the most tradition-rich and patriotic bowl games in America.”

In 2020, Jarrett Doege led the Mountaineers to a 24-21 victory over the Army Black Knights in the Liberty Bowl. Arkansas is also familiar with the location having defeated the Kansas Jayhawks last postseason, 55-53 in triple overtime.

Action Network’s Brett McMurphy has the Mountaineers playing in the Tax Act Texas Bowl on Dec. 27 in Houston, Texas against the University of Kentucky.

Also as predicted by McMurphy the following Big 12 teams are also predicted to make a bowl game: Texas (Allstate Sugar Bowl); BYU (Liberty Bowl); Oklahoma (Alamo Bowl); Kansas State (Pop-Tarts Bowl); UCF (Wasabi Fenway Bowl); Kansas (Guaranteed Rate Bowl); TCU (Armed Forces Bowl); Baylor (Birmingham Bowl); Oklahoma State (Independence Bowl); and Texas Tech (New Mexico Bowl).

West Virginia heads into a bye week before looking for its fifth straight victory against former head coach Dana Holgerson and Houston. The Cougars are currently 2-3 (0-2 in Big 12), most recently losing to the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
