Mountaineers in the Pros

NFC Wild Card Round Preview: Geno Smith Leads Seahawks on Road Against 49ers

It took him a long time to get here, but Geno Smith will start in an NFL playoff game for the first time later today.

Smith’s Seattle Seahawks will take on the San Francisco 49ers from Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. The game will kickoff at 4:30 pm EST.

The 49ers enter the game as the NFC West division champions and number 2 seed while Seattle needing some luck to crawl in as a Wild Card and 7th seed. San Francisco is favored by 9.5 points, according to BetMGM.

This will be a tough matchup for Seattle, having lost both regular season games to San Francisco this season. It will also be a challenge for Smith and the Seahawks’ offense due to San Francisco allowing only 16.3 points per game by opponents, the lowest amount in the league.

West Virginia fans have plenty of reason to get behind Seattle if their NFL team isn’t part of the postseason dance. Former Mountaineer Bruce Irvin, who won a Super Bowl and played in another during his first tenure with Seattle, will experience another playoff game as a member of the Seahawks. But there could also be a conflict with Colton McKivitz on the 49ers.

The game will be televised nationally on Fox.
