Report: FAU HC Dusty May Not in Contact with West Virginia

Florida Atlantic head coach Dusty May has not been in contact with West Virginia regarding the open coaching job, a source told Stadium’s Jeff Goodman. May’s name emerged as a potential candidate on Tuesday night.

May recently took FAU to the Final Four and is returning the majority of his roster from that team. May is preparing for his sixth season.

According to Goodman, May is on campus at Boca Raton for summer workouts.

West Virginia is looking to hire their first men’s basketball head coach since 2007. WVU is replacing Basketball Hall of Fame coach Bob Huggins after he resigned on Saturday following a DUI.

Coaches such as Andy Kennedy (UAB), Jerrod Calhoun (Youngstown State), Pat Kelsey (College of Charleston) and Ben McCollum (Northwest Missouri State) have been linked to the job. WVU is conducting a national search but is also considering internal candidates.

Sources tell WV Sports Now that the current West Virginia roster is in favor of Kennedy. Some of the players have not received many updates and have been scrolling through Twitter for the most recent news, which isn’t uncommon in these situations. Both Kennedy and perhaps Calhoun as well, have the best opportunity to retain assistants, which would help retain the current roster from entering the transfer portal.

WV Sports Now will continue to update you on the latest coaching search for the Mountaineers.
