West Virginia will compete in the Battle 4 Atlantis Invitational during the 2024-25 season, as reported by CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein. WVU joins a field of eight that includes Arizona, Creighton, Davidson, Gonzaga, Indiana, Louisville and Oklahoma.

The dates are unknown for when the 2024 tournament will take place in the Bahamas.

West Virginia will face SMU in the first round of the Fort Myers Tip-Off. Virginia and Wisconsin are the other teams in the field and will match up as well. The event will take place in Fort Myers, Fl. from Nov. 20-22, 2023.

This will be the first matchup between WVU and SMU ever.

West Virginia will match up with either Virginia or Wisconsin in the second round depending on the outcomes of each game. WVU has most recently played Virginia in 2017 and Wisconsin in 2014. SMU is heading into year two with head coach Rob Lanier. The Mustangs went 10-22 last season but have retooled their roster with a transfer portal class including former Oklahoma State forward Tyreek Smith.

West Virginia was originally supposed to play in the 2020 Battle 4 Atlantis but the COVID-19 virus prevented the initial tournament from occurring. WVU ended up heading to South Dakota for the Bad Boy Mowers Invitational.
