Report: WVU Expected to Conduct National Search to Replace Huggins

West Virginia is expected to conduct a national search to replace Bob Huggins, who resigned on Saturday night, sources tell ESPN’s Pete Thamel. Thamel also reports that WVU will consider options internally as well.
Sources: West Virginia is expected to conduct a national search for the school’s next coach. Internal candidates will all be considered. One of the job’s attractions is the NIL opportunities that helped lure one of the top transfer classes to Morgantown.

Current Mountaineer assistants include Ron Everhart, Josh Eilert and DerMarr Johnson. Everhart and Eilert have been with the program for well over a decade while Johnson was hired by Huggins to replace long-time assistant Larry Harrison. Johnson played for Huggins at Cincinnati from 1999-00.
It is unknown who Director of Athletics Wren Baker can target but the person serving as head coach will be replacing a Hall of Fame Huggins. This will be WVU’s first men’s basketball head coaching hiring since 2007 when Huggins came from Kansas State.
WV Sports Now will keep you posted on the national search and potential candidates.
