Two Mountaineers Named to Big 12 Preseason Team

Two West Virginia women’s basketball players have been named to the 2020 Big 12 Preseason Team.

Senior guard Kysre Gondrezick and junior forward Kari Niblack were both named honorable mention’s on the preseason team, released Wednesday afternoon.

Gondrezick, a former Michigan transfer, led the Mountaineers in scoring last season, averaging 15.3 points per game. She shot 37.3% from the floor and 34.9% from three-point range and dished out 82 assists.

Gondrezick scored more than 20 points in nine games and was named a Big 12 honorable mention following the season.

Niblack was the team’s leading rebounder, averaging 6.9 per game. She also averaged 10.3 points, shooting 45.5% from the floor. She also led the team with 61 blocks. She was named the 2019 Big 12 Sixth Man of the Year.

West Virginia finished the 2019-20 season with a 17-12 record, 7-11 in the Big 12. The Mountaineers lost seven of their final 10 games and would have played Texas in the first round of the Big 12 Championship.

Baylor swept the preseason awards, with NaLyssa Smith being named the Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year, DiJonai Carrington the Preseason Newcomer of the Year and Sarah Andrews the Preseason Freshman of the Year.
