With one defensive back already locked in, another one is in Morgantown on a visit. Akron transfer Darrian Lewis is visiting with the WVU football staff on Wednesday in an official capacity.

Lewis even publicized his trip to West Virginia on social media. A 5-foot-10, 190-pound corner, Lewis played in 12 games and started 11 for the Zips during the 2024 season.

He recorded 74 tackles, three tackles for a loss for six yards, picked off a pass and even had six pass breakups in 2024 after registering 75 total tackles (51 as solo) in nine starts in 2023.

Lewis spent four years at Akron, granted did not appear in a game when he first arrived in 2021.

Since entering the transfer portal late in the spring window on April 22, Lewis has received offers from FAU, Miami (OH), New Mexico, Robert Morris, UTEP, Western Michigan and Western Kentucky.

If offered, West Virginia would be his biggest offer by far. Lewis is tasked with impressing the WVU coaches and making them believe he can elevate his game to have success in the Big 12 as much he needs to decide if becoming a Mountaineer is right for him.

Nearby FCS schools Duquesne and RMU heavily pursed Lewis in 2020 out of high school before he eventually decided to join Akron instead.
