After a successful run in European basketball over the past two seasons, former West Virginia forward Nathan Adrian is heading back to Europe.

Adrian signed a two-year contract with Happy Casa Brindisi from the Lega Basket Serie A league in Italy’s top league, the team announced early Monday morning. The team based out of Brindisi, Apulia signed Adrian through June 30, 2023.

Adrian spent the 2019-20 season in France, scoring 17.3 points per game and grabbing 7.7 rebounds per game for JSA Bordeaux in France’s third-tier basketball league. Last season, he played for MBC Mykolaiv in the Ukrainian SL Favorit Sport league, averaging 17.9 points and 7.9 rebounds.

Adrian plays for Best Virginia (a team of WVU alumni) in the The Basketball Tournament, with BV scheduled to play Team D2 in the second round of the tournament tonight at 9 p.m.

Over Adrian’s four seasons in Morgantown from 2013-14 through 2016-17, he served as an integral part of WVU’s tough-nosed “Press Virginia” teams that advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament twice. As a senior, he averaged 9.6 points per game, on 42.4% shooting, while grabbing 6.0 rebounds and dishing 2.9 assists per game.
