WVU Basketball Assistant Lands Head Coaching Opportunity

With WVU basketball moving on with the Ross Hodge era, the assistant coaches left over from Darian DeVries’ departure are starting to find work elsewhere. And on Friday, one of them landed a major opportunity.
Oral Roberts is hiring now former West Virginia assistant Kory Barnett to be their next head coach. CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein was first with the news.
Before DeVries brought Barnett to WVU, he spent most of his coaching career under Steve Alford at UCLA and Nevada.
Initially, he served as an assistant coach, director of operations, player development and scouting, and the video coordinator at UCLA. While at UCLA, Barnett helped lead the Bruins to four NCAA tournaments along with two Sweet 16 appearances. The 2015-2016 year is when Barnett was elevated to director of player development and scouting for the Bruins. The ensuing years, the Bruins saw future NBA players and All-Americans go through their program.
Barnett was also a graduate assistant at Indiana, the school he played for from 2009-2012.
WV Sports Now detailed more about Barnett’s full journey in November of 2024.
