It’s not a national championship, but winning the College Basketball Crown does mean WVU basketball ended the 2025-26 season as champions. And watching the Mountaineers cap off Ross Hodge’s first year with an 89-82 overtime win over Oklahoma provided a reason for fans to feel good about the end of the season.

West Virginia fans took to social media to celebrate closing out Easter Sunday with a championship.

The Crown title marks the third time in the history of WVU basketball the Mountaineers have ended a season by winning a tournament championship: 1942 NIT (WVU claims this as a national championship due to the NIT being more prominent at the time) 2007 NIT 2026 College Basketball Crown.

Very nice win. Hope players get most if not all of the $300,000.
Have been Mountaineer fan since 1950s. Always Cringe when weโ€™re referred to as University of West Virginia instead of for correct West Virginia University.
In Post game interview with our coach he said โ€œ University of West Virginiaโ€. Hope he corrects that in the future.
