WVU Defensive Tackle Darius Stills and Safety Tykee Smith Named AP All-Americans

Two Mountaineers received national recognition this morning when the AP All-American teams were announced. West Virginia senior Darius Stills was named a First Team All-American at defensive tackle, while sophomore Tykee Smith made it as a Third Team All-American.

Stills has 22 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks this season, with an interception going into the team’s final game against Army this week. The Fairmont native took home this season’s Big 12 Defensive Lineman of the Year award while also landing on the All-Big 12 First Team.

Earlier this month, Stills announced he will declare for the NFL draft following this season and talked on Sunday about playing his final game with his brother, Dante.

Smith had a breakout season in WVU’s safety/linebacker hybrid spear position. He is tied for second on the Mountaineers with 61 total tackles with eight tackles for loss, two interceptions and five pass breakups. He was left off the All-Big 12 teams when they were announced earlier this month, only being named an All-Big 12 honorable mention.

WVU was one of five Big 12 teams to be represented on the AP lists and one of four to have multiple players honored. Iowa State had the most with four and WVU tied with Texas and Oklahoma with two each.

• Charlie Kolar, Iowa State – Third Team Tight End
• JaQuan Bailey, Iowa State – Third Team Defensive End
