WVU Releases Men’s Soccer’s Final MAC Schedule for 2021

For the final time, West Virginia Director of Athletics Shane Lyons has announced WVU men’s soccer’s Mid-American Conference schedule. WVU will move to Conference USA for 2022.

WVU’s 2021 schedule is comprised of 17 games, preceded by three exhibition games, of which six are against MAC opponents. WVU will play 10 home games at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium in Morgantown.

Following exhibitions against Duquesne, Charleston and St. Francis in mid-August, WVU’s schedule opens on the road against Robert Morris on Aug. 26 — a quick turnaround following last spring’s schedule — before hosting Pittsburgh on Aug. 30 in a Backyard Brawl renewal.

Pitt, Penn State, Loyola (Md.) and Ohio State will travel to Morgantown from Aug. 30 through Sept. 10 before WVU travels to Huntington for an in-state rivalry match with defending National Champions Marshall on Sept. 17.

MAC conference play begins against Akron on Sept. 30. Conference games against Northern Illinois, Western Michigan, Georgia State, Georgia Southern and Bowling Green come throughout the month of October, with the Bowling Green game scheduled for the final game of the season on Nov. 4.

WVU’s final season in the MAC before joining Conference USA next season features a tough slate with five NCAA Tournament teams (Penn State, Pitt, Marshall, Bowling Green, Kentucky).

After a 6-3-1 season in WVU head coach Dan Stratford’s first season in charge, while returning 12 of 13 of players who started at least five games — including all seven top scorers — WVU appears poised for a challenging yet promising season.

Ticketing information for WVU’s 2021 season at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium will be announced at a later date.

WVU’s first exhibition match is scheduled for Aug. 13 at Dick Dlesk Stadium against Duquesne.
