Adding more fuel to the hype, WVU signee Matt Sieg has been named the 2025 Maxwell Football Club National High School Player of the Year, as per a release sent on Tuesday.

He was also dubbed a Maxwell Football Club’s High School All-American in late December. Sieg becomes the first West Virginia signee to earn a National High School Player of the Year honor.

Sieg surprised many across the region by announcing his decision to flip his commitment from Penn State to WVU over offers from rivals Pitt and Virginia Tech.

Sieg owns multiple WPIAL records, most notably for career total yardage. He wrapped up his high school career and recruitment as the No. 3 player in Pennsylvania, per 247Sports, along with the No. 9 safety in the country from his class and the No. 79 overall player. Despite playing quarterback, he’s projected to be a safety at the next level.

Joining WVU signals an opportunity for Sieg to play offense as well. Sieg did talk about his desire to play offense with WVSN at the beginning of his recruitment.
