West Virginia Unviersity junior forward Derek Culver has been named the Big 12 Player of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon.

It is the first time a WVU men’s basketball player has earned the weekly honor from the conference since Jaysean Paige in 2016.

Culver earned MVP honors as West Virginia opened the season 3-0 last week with a tournament win at the Crossover Classic in South Dakota. The Youngstown, Ohio native averaged 15 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks in the three games against South Dakota State, VCU and Western Kentucky.
