WVU’s Winston Wright Shares Ambiguous Tweet

Following West Virginia’s defeat at the hands of Minnesota in last night’s Guaranteed Rate Bowl, Mountaineer wide receiver Winston Wright Jr. posted a cryptic tweet today.

Wright caught a trio of receptions for 16 yards in the bowl game, and thoughts are swirling regarding what this means for the future of head coach Neal Brown’s receiving and punt return groups. Some suggest that the junior was simply saying goodbye to a group of seniors who he enjoyed playing the past three seasons with. Other Mountaineer fans interpret this as Wright Jr.’s exodus from the program. If he was to leave Morgantown, he would have one more year of eligibility to use elsewhere.

One thing’s for sure, though. Former WVU defensive back Tykee Smith, who left Brown’s program in April 2021 for Georgia, responded quickly to Wright Jr.’s tweet.

This may be indicative of Wright Jr.’s intent to leave the program, but of course, this is purely speculation as of now. The dust of an embarrassing bowl loss hasn’t yet settled, and the tone of Wright Jr.’s tweet can still be interpreted in a variety of directions.
