WVU Football target Chris McCorkle III

West Virginia received some positive news towards their goal of landing 2025 defensive back prospect Chris McCorkle III. The Sarasota, Fla. native revealed his top 12 schools on Friday, showing the WVU football program on the list along with several other major brands.

McCorkle included the Mountaineers on his list that also shows both Florida and Florida State within his home state. Georgia Tech, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisville, Michigan State, Mississippi State and UCF.

Listed at 6-foot-1, 173 pounds, McCorkle, who is even viewed as an athlete based on his experience as a receiver, is ranked as a top 100 player in his class by two national recruiting outlets. On3.com and 247 Sports classify McCorkle as a three-star, granted he does place himself as a four-star on social media. McCorkle’s best rating comes from On3, ranking him as the No. 54 prospect in Florida and the No. 46 cornerback in the country.

McCorkle recorded 37 solo tackles and nine interceptions on defense and caught 13 balls for 371 yards on offense. WVU sent McCorkle an offer almost a year ago back in May of 2023.

Besides the McCorkle’s top 12 schools, he also has offers on the table from other Power 4 programs like Boston College and Purdue and Group of 5 teams like Coastal Carolina, FAU, Liberty, Marshall, Toledo, Tulane, USF and Western Kentucky.
