Big 12 Staple Program Names Starting Quarterback for 2024 Season
WVU entered the 2024 offseason with the quarterback position solidified by Garrett Greene, but that wasn’t the case for every program in the Big 12. But now with the season just over a week away, one Big 12 staple has finally found its 2024 QB1.
As first reported by Matt Zenitz of 247 Sports, Baylor is naming Toledo transfer Dequan Finn its starting quarterback. Finn will now try to turn around the Baylor program after the Bears endured a rough 2023 season.
Finn, who claimed the MAC Most Valuable Player honors last season, transferred to Baylor in December. He threw for 2,657 passing yards and 22 touchdowns with nine interceptions.
The 6-foot-2, 206-pound Finn also ran for 563 yards and seven touchdowns while leading Toledo to an 11-2 season and a surprising MAC championship.
Finn now jumps to the Power Four level after spending the previous five seasons with Toledo, three of those as a starter.
Finn totaled 7,074 yards passing yards and 63 touchdowns with another 1,840 yards with 25 scores on the ground throughout his Toledo tenure.
Finn, a fifth-year senior, beat out redshirt juniors Sawyer Robertson, a Mississippi State transfer who started four games at Baylor in 2023, and RJ Martinez, for the starting job.
Baylor opens the season Aug. 31 in Waco, Texas against Tarleton State. Kickoff is scheduled for at 7 p.m. ET and the game will air on ESPN+.
