West Virginia landed its first commitment from the class of 2025 by way of Braydon Hawthorne on Friday night. Hawthorne is a three-star prospect from Huntington Prep and is a native of Beckley, WV.

Hawthorne, 6-foot-8, picked up offers from Florida Gulf Coast, Mount St. Mary’s, Ohio, Old Dominion, Pepperdine, Radford, UMBC and Wichita State. Hawthorne took trips to Ohio and Old Dominion during his recruitment. Hawthorne is the No. 213 prospect in the country and the No. 1 player in the state of West Virginia, according to 247 Sports.

Over the past few weeks, WVU has missed out on guys who have included them in their top lists: Omari Witherspoon (G – Pitt), Ian Inman (F – Colorado), CJ Shaw (G – UC Santa Barbara), Jaylon Dean-Vines (G – Vanderbilt) but land an in-state prospect.

Hawthorne is the first commit for Darian DeVries and his staff in the 2025 class.
