Past Mountaineers who were featured at the annual wrestling showcase include Jim Akerly (1987), Scott Collins (1991), Mark Banks (1991), Keith Taylor (1991), Dean Morrison (1994), Mike Mason (1998), Vertus Jones (1999), Ryan Kehler (2001), Greg Jones (2003, 2004 and 2005) and Zeke Moisey (2015). This is also the third time that WVU sends two grapplers to the event in the same year (1991 and 1994).
“This is really great for our program,” WVU wrestling head coach Tim Flynn said as part of the program’s statement to announce the news.
“It’s always a good thing to have basically 1/10th of the guys competing in the Division I All-Star meet from West Virginia University,” he added.
From the press release….
Hall, ranked No. 4 by FloWrestling, battles 2024 All-American and No. 3 Hunter Garvin of Stanford in a rematch from last year’s NCAA Championships, while No. 3 Watters faces 2023 All-American and No. 2 Shayne Van Ness of Penn State.
Tickets for the star-studded event are available at Ticketmaster and fans not in attendance can stream all of the action live exclusively on FloWrestling.
This prestigious event began in 1967 and was a staple of the college season until 2017. After a four-year hiatus, the All-Star Classic returned in 2022 in Austin, Texas, due largely to the support of the National Wrestling Coaches Association.
