For the seventh time in the 2019 MLB Draft, a Mountaineer player has been selected. This time, it’s closer Sam Kessler, who was picked by the Detroit Tigers in the 34th round.
Kessler has been a lock down reliever throughout his collegiate career posting a 3.19 ERA in 2019 including 8 saves and a 46:11 strikeout to walk ratio.
Kessler still has one more year of eligibility remaining and is likely to return to West Virginia to improve his draft stock.
