Reigning NABC D-II Player of the Year RJ Sunahara is scheduled to visit West Virginia from May 10-12, he tells WV Sports Now and The Portal Report. Sunahara is a fourth-year forward, transferring from Nova Southeastern.

Sunahara also mentioned that he will visit Georgia this weekend and Notre Dame from May 8-9.

Sunahara (6-foot-8) entered the transfer portal on Thursday and WVU’s coaching staff made contact hours later. Sunahara averaged 18.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.6 blocks per game. Sunahara shot 60 percent from the field and 40 percent from three on 60 attempts. The transfer forward helped lead NSU to an undefeated 36-0 record, winning the NCAA Division-II National Championship over West Liberty. Sunahara recorded 28 points and nine rebounds in the championship-clinching win.

Sunahara has also been contacted by Loyola Chicago, VCU and others. Sunahara has one year of eligibility remaining.

Sunahara is the son of WVU volleyball head coach Reed Sunahara and the brother of former WVU football long-snapper Rex Sunahara.

The NCAA Transfer Portal closes on May 11 for entries. Players are still able to visit schools and commit after the deadline as long as they’re in the system by next Thursday. It’s unknown when Sunahara will make his decision but it’s assumed it’ll be after his three visits.
