West Virginia has contacted Nova Southeastern transfer forward RJ Sunahara in the transfer portal, a source told WV Sports Now. Sunahara is coming off of a National Championship while winning the NABC Division-II Player of the Year this past season.

Sunahara (6-foot-8) entered the transfer portal on Thursday and WVU’s coaching staff made contact hours later. Sunahara averaged 18.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.6 blocks per game. Sunahara shot 60 percent from the field and 40 percent from three on 60 attempts. The transfer forward helped lead NSU to an undefeated 36-0 record, winning the NCAA Division-II National Championship over West Liberty. Sunahara recorded 28 points and nine rebounds in the championship-clinching win. Sunahara has one year of eligibility remaining.

Sunahara is the son of WVU volleyball head coach Reed Sunahara and the brother of former WVU football long snapper Rex Sunahara.

West Virginia most recently landed Montana State transfer RaeQuan Battle on Wednesday. Battle averaged 17.7 points on 47 percent shooting from the field, 35 percent from three and 83 percent from the free throw line. The transfer portal is open until May 11 and WVU is not done adding to their roster just yet.
