Don Robinson Hired as CEO of Gold & Blue Enterprises

WVU Athletics has hired Don Robinson as the inaugural Chief Executive Officer of Gold & Blue Enterprises, as announced in a release Tuesday.

Gold & Blue enterprises is a WVU-owned agency emphasizing the enhancing of the student-athlete experience and help WVU maintain competitiveness in the Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) sphere of college athletics.

Robinson previously served as the president of MVB Financial Corp. after assuming the position in 2022. He first joined the company in 2011 and helped develop it into a $3 billion bank with national operations.

“We are fortunate to have a person of Don’s energy, leadership and financial expertise be our first Chief Executive Officer of Gold & Blue Enterprises,” WVU Athletic Director Wren Baker said in the release. “We are truly at a critical point for our future, and WVU Athletics means too much to this University and state to not be prominent on the national scene. We have worked diligently to be prepared and ready for the upcoming challenges, and Don is the perfect choice to lead GBE’s mission given his deep knowledge and understanding of commercial business development as well as his passion for WVU.”

Robinson, a native of Moundsville, West Virginia, earned his bachelor’s degree from WVU in Business and Accounting in 1997. He worked across the state in various roles before beginning his banking career in at Huntington Bank’s West Virginia region. After that, he transitioned to MVB.

“After 15 incredibly rewarding years in which we grew and accomplished so much, I thought the time was right to step away from my leadership responsibilities at MVB,” Robinson said in the release. “The new world of college athletics is very intriguing. This is a special opportunity to form a new direction for WVU Athletics and not only make a difference in a young person’s life but position the department for long-term success in the national landscape.”
