ESPN’s Jeff Borzello updated his coaching carousel tracker on Thursday with a new name added into consideration for West Virginia. Borzello has added Grand Canyon HC Bryce Drew to a list of potential names WVU could be looking at.

Drew is currently preparing for their first-round NCAA Tournament game vs. 5-seed Saint Mary’s. Grand Canyon won the regular season and conference tournament titles in the WAC. Drew has done a fine job at GCU, taking the Antelopes to three NCAA Tournaments in four seasons. Drew also coached at Valparaiso (2011-16) and Vanderbilt (2016-19), taking each team to the NCAAT.

WVU AD Wren Baker praised defense during his press conference last Wednesday, in which GCU is 45th in adjusted defense per KenPom.

Drew played college basketball at Valparaiso in the 90s, becoming one of the infamous faces of March Madness by hitting a game-winning shot over Ole Miss in 1998. Drew was picked in the first round of the NBA draft, playing professional basketball for seven years.

Bryce is the brother of current Baylor HC Scott Drew.

West Virginia’s rumored list for weeks has consisted of Mark Byington (James Madison), Darian DeVries (Drake), Niko Medved (Colorado State), Dusty May (FAU) and others. May to West Virginia is unlikely especially with Scott Drew deciding to remain at Baylor instead of taking the Louisville job, per Jeff Goodman.

WV Sports Now will provide updates on WVU’s ongoing coaching search.
