Former WVU G Jonathan Powell Switches Sides of Rivalry, Commits to Pitt

From side of the Backyard Brawl rivalry to the other, former Mountaineer Jonathan Powell has committed to transfer to Pitt, per a report from Joe Tipton of On3 Sports.

After starting his college career at WVU, Powell transferred to North Carolina ahead of the 2025-26 season.

He recorded 4.8 points and 2.4 rebounds in 33 games for the Tar Heels.

A native of Centerville, Ohio, Powell averaged 8.3 points per game with West Virginia during the 2024-25 season. He finished second on WVU in three-pointers (64) and three-point shooting (35.2%). Powell played in all 32 games and started the final 23 after replacing Tucker DeVriesย in the starting lineup following his injury.
