For the second time this season, West Virginia freshman guard Miles McBride has been named the Big 12 newcomer of the week.

McBride posted double-digit point performances in both of the Mountaineers’ games this past week, scoring 10 points at Oklahoma State Monday and a career-high 22 points versus Texas Tech Saturday.

The Cincinnati, Ohio native has scored in double figures in six straight games, averaging 15.2 points per game in that stretch. He is shooting 31-59 (52.5%) from the floor, including 10-20 (50%) from three and 25-31 (80.6%) from the free-throw line since Dec. 14.

This recent scoring streak has moved McBride up to West Virginia’s third-leading scorer with 10.1 points per game, only trailing big men Oscar Tshiebwe (11.9) and Derek Culver (10.3). McBride leads the team in assists (33) and steals (18).

McBride has yet to make a start this season, with all of his production this season coming off the bench.

McBride was also named newcomer of the week on Dec. 30. His fellow WVU freshman, Tshiebwe, has won the award three times so far this season.
