Miles McBride Goes First Round In New Mock Draft

West Virginia guard Miles “Deuce” McBride has had an excellent offseason, testing well at the NBA Combine, coming off a breakout sophomore season with WVU. Now, he’s generating consistent first round buzz.

Sports Illustrated‘s Jeremy Woo’s Mock Draft 5.0 dropped Monday morning, and he projects an NBA powerhouse to scoop up McBride.

Woo mocked McBride to the Brooklyn Nets with the 27th pick in 2021 NBA Draft. Woo was very complimentary of McBride in his write up:

“McBride has earned a number of fans around the league with his toughness, on-ball defense and shot-making skills, and will enter draft night in the mix for teams all over the 20s. He’s undersized, but has off-the-charts length and a reliable pull-up jumper that gives him a little more to offer than your typical defensive-minded college guard. Optimistic scouts think he has the chops to anchor bench units, and the Nets should be in the market for more NBA-ready talent if they keep this pick, making McBride’s poised, no-frills game a nice fit here.”

After a season in which he scored 15.8 points per game, dished 4.9 assists per game and grabbed 3.8 rebounds per game on sparkling 43/41/81 shooting splits, McBride has been a fast-rising NBA-ready prospect. His defensive game (1.9 steals per game) and excellent wingspan point to an immediate NBA fit defensively.

The 2021 NBA Draft is scheduled for Thursday, July 29 at 8 p.m. in Brooklyn, New York. ABC will provide coverage of the first, and ESPN will cover the second round.
