The Big 12 Defensive Lineman of the Year and an All-Big 12 first team pick, Stills was also first-team All-America selection by the Associated Press, USA Today, Bleacher Report and ESPN with The Athletic naming him to their second team. Smith, an All-Big 12 first team selection by the AP, was also named to Pro Football Focus’ All-America first team and was a third-team pick by the AP.

According to WVU, Stills is the first Mountaineer named to the SN All-America First Team since David Sill in 2017. He is the first West Virginia defensive lineman since Bruce Bosley in 1955 and the 13th player in school history to earn first-team honors from Sporting News. Stills and Smith are the first pair of WVU teammates to make the SN teams since Dan Mozes and Steve Slaton in 2006 and the 17th and 18th players in school history to make the teams. Smith joins former West Virginia standouts Ryan Stancheck (2007), Garin Justice (2005) and Brian Smider (1988) as the only SN All-America second team picks in school history.
