Making the 2026 season even more historic, a WVU baseball all-time record was set in the first inning of the program’s first-ever College World Series.

Scoring West Virginia’s first run, Armani Guzman stole home plate and broke the Mountaineers’ single-season stolen base record. It also marked the first steal of home plate in a College World Series game since 2000.

Guzman’s stolen home plate awarded him his 39th of the season. He entered the College World Series with one home run, 41 RBI and a .312 batting average as well in 2026.
