The Mountaineers are 1-0 all-time against the Marist Red Foxes.  They last met in 2012, in the first round of the Old Spice Classic.  West Virginia would go on to route the Red Foxes 87-44, Eron Harris (15) and Terry Henderson (14) led the team in scoring.

These two programs meet up again in a similar scenario, meeting in another preseason tournament, this time the Advocare Invitational in Orlando, Florida.

Marist hasn’t finished above .500 since the 2007-2008 season, and despite the optimism before this upcoming season, they have started 0-3, with their losses coming to Lehigh, Umass-Lowell and Army.

The Red Foxes have four players that average double figures, guard Brian Parker (19.7), guard David Knudsen (12.7), forward Ryan Funk (12.3) and forward Isaiah Lamb (10.3).

This is not a deep team and they have trouble getting any production off the bench.

For West Virginia, they need to continue to improve and find some consistency on the offensive end of the floor.  Chase Harler and Saba Konate are coming off their best shooting performance of their career.  It will be hard to duplicate what they did against Long Beach State this game, but if they can continue their offensive production, they should win the Advocare Invitational and the Mountaineers will solidify themselves as a top 20 program.

The press for the Mountaineers has been affective the last couple games for West Virginia.  Its been a challenge for head coach Bob Huggins to get all the new players and even the returning players to get on the same page and them into position to make plays.

When the Mountaineers win the first game they will face the winner of UCF vs Nebraska Friday at 7:00 pm.
