WVU Football WR recruit and top prospect in West Virginia Tayveon Wilson

The top wide receiver in West Virginia will be announcing his college plans later this week. Tayveon Wilson, who is deciding if to stay in his home state and attend WVU or accept one of his other offers, will reveal his decision on Thursday.

“I will be committing on Thursday, November 21 at 3:30pm in the Huntington High School auditorium. All friends and family are welcome to attend,” said Wilson on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday.

Wilson (6-foot-3, 205 pounds), a Huntington High School product, is widely considered the top 2026 wide receiver in the state. WVU sent him an official offer in May.

Awarded three stars by national recruiting outlet 247 Sports, Wilson also plays the other side of the ball on defense and excels in basketball, baseball and track, making him one of the premiere young athletes in West Virginia.

According to Wilson, the West Virginia coaching staff has been interested in him for a while. “We’ve been looking at you for a while and we wanted to make sure we did it the right way. We look forward to seeing you this summer,” Wilson told WV Sports Now about what was said when WVU tight ends coach Blaine Stewart called with the official offer.

As for his other options outside of the state, Wilson has 10 Division I offers right now that include Appalachian State, Bowling Green, Louisville, Miami (FL), Toledo, Virginia Tech and Western Michigan in addition to an opportunity to continue his family legacy at Marshall. He also says Clemson and Notre Dame have been showing heavy interest.

Wilson recently attended the Penn State-Ohio State game in State College and has also visited Virginia Tech, WVU and even Clemson without an offer.

Wilson made 27 receptions for 588 yards and scored 11 touchdowns during the 2023 season. He averaged 21.8 yards per catch and even added 153 yards on the ground and four more rushing touchdowns. It’s clear Wilson is a true athlete and already a playmaker. Wilson also accomplished three defensive scores  and one as a returner.
