Just a couple days ahead of West Virginia’s Friday night battle with BYU, several players are listed as “questionable” for the game. Will any of the injured players be able to return this week and help WVU get back on track against the Cougars?

Below is WVU’s full injury report for this week:

Out: QB Nicco Marchiol, RB Jahiem White, WR Jaden Bray, OL Cooper Young, S Julien Horton

Doubtful: DL Devin Grant

Questionable: QB Max Brown, QB Jaylen Henderson, RB Tye Edwards, WR Oran Singleton Jr., OL Kimo Makane’ole

West Virginia’s quarterback situation:ย

As Nicco Marchiol remains out of action, WVU head coach Rich Rodriguez is once again faced with the decision about who start at quarterback. And on Tuesday, it appears he may have tipped his hand some in terms of who will get the next opportunity to lead the Mountaineers moving forward.

After starting veteran Jaylen Henderson against Utah, it now appears as if Rodriguez will look to a younger option as West Virginia attempts to upset BYU.

Rodriguez said both Henderson and Max Brown are currently โ€œlimitedโ€ early in the week. He did not elaborate on what ailments that are dealing with, but did add they will โ€œlikelyโ€ be good to go for Saturday.

But Rodriguez, who admitted Henderson failed to provide the spark they were looking for against Utah โ€“ he completed just three passes for 22 yards and only ran for 28 more, then proceeded to rave about what he saw from freshman Khalil Wilkins.

โ€œKhalil can make all the throws and obviously heโ€™s a dynamic runner. Heโ€™s got some explosive ability. I think his future, his upside looks really good,โ€ said Rodriguez when asked to evaluate Wilkinsโ€™ play. Rodriguez also added that Wilkins is โ€œexplosiveโ€ and has a tremendous upside.

To this point, WV Sports Now expects Wilkins to get the start at BYU.

Will WVU get Tye Edwards back this week?ย

Unfortunately for WVU, running back Tye Edwards hasn’t been able to play since his breakout performance in the Backyard Brawl win over Pitt. And after missing two games, it would make sense to think he would return to help the Mountaineers try to upset BYU and save their season.

However, the fact he’s still listed as “questionable” does provide pause and could mean he’s forced to sit again. WVU does have the benefit of a bye week following the game, which means he will have two full weeks to get ready for Oct. 18 at UCF.

BYU’s injury report:

Out: RB Sione Moa, WR Jojo Phillips, LB Choรฉ Bryant-Strother, CB Jonathan Kabeya

Questionable: OL Austin Leausa

Probable: LB Isaiah Glasker, LB Naki Tuakoi, S Tommy Prassas

West Virginia and BYU are set to kickoff from Provo, Utah at 10:30 pm ET. The game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.

For a related story, BYU head coach Kalani Sitake discussed his respect for Rich Rodriguez and why he wonโ€™t underestimate West Virginia.
