WVU Basketball officially announced the hiring of Nelson Hernandez on Friday afternoon. Hernandez comes from Oklahoma State and will serve as the director of player personnel and recruiting under head coach Darian DeVries.

“We are excited to add Nelson to our basketball staff,” WVU HC Darian DeVries said. “He has a ton of experience and has made a lot of connections with his different roles at his previous stops. Nelson will be involved in many different areas that will aid in the success of our program.”

Before Oklahoma State, Hernandez had been at plenty of different schools and had many titles within the game. Hernandez has worked as video coordinator for Utah State (2010-14) and Clemson (2014-15), director of player development at Wright State (2015-16), director of basketball operations at VCU (2016-17) and LSU (2017-22).

Hernandez is the second official hire on Friday, with West Virginia welcoming Kory Barnett from Nevada as an assistant. Barnett joins WVU after many years under Steve Alford at UCLA and Nevada.

West Virginia has also officially hired associate head coach Chester Frazier (Illinois) and assistant Nick Norton (Drake). Frazier has had plenty of high-major experience coaching at Kansas State, Virginia Tech and Illinois.
