WVU CB Charles Woods to Miss Towson Game, LB Tirek Austin-Cave Cleared to Play

Besides how the team is going to respond after the loss to Kansas, one other big piece of news West Virginia fans were hoping to learn from Neal Brown during his Tuesday press conference was the status of cornerback Charles Woods.

After not offering an update last week until right before kickoff, Brown made it known that the team will be without Woods again this week against Towson. Woods had to be helped off the field with an ankle injury early in the Backyard Brawl game in Pittsburgh. Brown did mention that the plan is to then reevaluate his status for the Week 4 matchup with Virginia Tech, but that game is a quicker turnaround and taking place on a Thursday night.

Woods is entering his senior season, second with West Virginia after transferring from Illinois State. Woods was selected to the Preseason All-Big 12 Conference Preseason First Team by the Big 12 media. The Texas native recorded two interceptions and 29 total tackles in 2021.

On a brighter note, the Mountaineers will have Jordan White back as part of the offensive line and Tirek Austin-Cave is also expected to be available on Saturday.

Kickoff for WVU welcoming Towson to Milan Puskar Stadium is set for 1 pm.
