WVU Looking to Build Relationship with 2024 3-Star DB Jay Harper

WVU football is making a strong push for a defensive back recruit coveted by many major programs. West Virginia extended an offer to three-star Jay Harper, adding him to their extensive list of players they are making a priority.
Harper (6-foot, 165 pounds), a class of 2024 plater out of Valley High School in Valley, Alabama, tweeted about the offer Thursday morning and then spoke with WV Sports Now about what he’s been hearing the WVU coaching staff.

“They told me that I’m one of their top corners on the board and that they want to keep building a relationship with me. They can definitely see me playing on Sundays,” said Harper, revealing some of his conversations with West Virginia.
The Mountaineers haven’t been afraid to pursue highly coveted cornerbacks and safety recruits, knowing their secondary will need depth and talent in the coming years. Harper owns a three-star rating from multiple national outlets (Rivals and 247 Sports) and is widely considered among the top 30 recruits in Alabama.
He’s a two-sport athlete, winning a state championship in basketball this year.

Landing Harper will require a lot of work for the WVU football program since he already has an abundance of options. In addition to WVU, Harper has offers from Power Five schools like Louisville, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Missouri, Tennessee, Texas A&M and Wisconsin. He’s already visited both Louisville and Wisconsin.
