WVU Getting in Early on Highly Coveted Transfer Edge
WVU knows it’s important to get involved early with transfer players they truly want, reaching out to a popular edge rusher on Wednesday.
On the same day Western Kentucky submitted Deante McCray’s request to transfer, WV Sports Now’s partner at the Portal Report is able to confirm WVU is among several major programs who have already contacted him with interest.

Arizona, Cal, Tulane, Texas A&M and Virginia are the other schools confirmed to have contacted McCray. McCray’s production and experience is what makes him an attractive option for a program who feels he’s ready to take that next step in his career.
After three years at Western Kentucky, McCray will have two years left of eligibility left after picking his destination. He made 50 total tackles in 2024 and 43 during the 2023 season at Western Kentucky. He also recorded 2.5 sacks this past season.
