The WVU soccer team earned a win and some bragging rights on Sunday. West Virginia defeated a professional team, blanking the Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC 2-0.

West Virginia’s game-winning goal was scored off a high shot into the right side of the box by Marcus Caldeira in the 50th minute. This came after a scoreless 0-0 tie at halftime.

Dan Stratford can now use a win over a pro team as a reason his group can be national contender once again. This exhibition match will take place at 2 pm from Highmark Stadium in Pittsburgh.

WVU Soccer is one of two college programs on the Riverhounds’ preseason schedule. They will also take on West Virginia’s Backyard Brawl rival Pitt next Saturday.

This wasn’t the first match between West Virginia and the Riverhounds SC. They also met in the 2022 preseason. The Riverhounds blanked WVU in that match two years ago by the score of 4-0.
