As of Tuesday, West Virginia is currently 3-0-0 on the season. WVU has outscored its opponents by a 12-2 margin and are coming off back-to-back 4-0 shutouts against Saint Francis and George Washington. This strong start to the season comes after the Mountaineers advanced all the way to the College Cup last year.
Graduate students Sergio Ors Navarro and Simon Carlson have swept the first two Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week awards to lead the Mountaineer attack. Ors Navarro is second in the country with six goals while Carlson has three goals and is tied for the NCAA lead with four assists.
Junior Marcus Caldeira, the Sun Belt Preseason Player of the Year, scored in WVU’s most recent game while junior Felix Ewald has chipped in with two goals as well.
The Mountaineers will look to defend their No. 1 ranking when they take the pitch on Friday, Sept. 6. WVU will head west to take on California Baptist. Kickoff is set for 10 p.m. ET.
