WVU to Play Elon in First Round of 2021 Charleston Classic

Matchups for the 2021 Shriner’s Children Charleston Classic have been announced and West Virginia will open the event against Elon at 9 or 9:30 p.m. on ESPN2 on Thursday, Nov. 18.

WVu and Elon have played just once previously in 2009, a crushing 92-47 Mountaineer victory.

The Phoenix went 10-9 in 2020-21,4-7 in the Colonial Athletic Association, but made it to the CAA Championship Game, losing to Drexel. Elon will return its leading scorer from last season in junior guard Hunter McIntosh, who averaged 15.7 points per game. McIntosh is also the team’s best returning passer, averaging 2.3 assists per game. Junior Hunter Woods led the team with 6.8 rebounds per game.

Other first-round matchups include St. Bonaventure vs. Boise State, Clemson vs. Temple and Marquette vs. Ole Miss. WVU and Elon are on the side of the bracket with Ole Miss and Marquette.
