#1 Mountaineers knock off #5 Georgetown to begin season

The West Virginia Mountaineers Women’s Soccer team opened up the season today as they traveled down to Georgetown University to take on the #5 nationally ranked Hoays. West Virginia scored the lone goal in the match at the 10:26 mark as Senior Michaela Abam scored off a header and was assisted by Junior  Forward Sh’Nia Gordon. Georgetown had many chances throughout the remainder of the match but it was the Mountaineer defense that proved strong to protect the lead until the final whistle.

Next up the Mountaineers will play Virginia on Thursday August 24th, gametime is set for 7PM.
